BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Wednesday, May 16, 2012) – John John Florence (HAW), 19, has won his maiden ASP ASP World Championship Tour event, taking out the Billabong Rio Pro over Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, in barreling three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at Barra da Tijuca. Florence, currently in his rookie year on the ASP WCT, proved unstoppable on the final day of Billabong Rio Pro competition, topping prodigious Australian Julian Wilson (AUS), 23, and Josh Kerr (AUS), 27, on his way to triumph over Parkinson. “This is the best feeling in the world,” Florence said. “I had that bad heat at Arpoador to start and we had a couple of lay days and I had to just sit and think about it. I can’t even believe this right now. I’m in shock. I was just sticking to my game plan and not thinking about the other guys. I’m so happy right now.”

Step into Liquid
This movie really takes you back to the REAL reason we surf and that's the joy of the ride and being one with the wave. What an incredible thing to see big waves on the big screen too! Even non-surfers would greatly enjoy this movie, it's funny and at the same time it really taught me some life lessons, not just surfing ones. I would recommend it to anyone. And if you do surf and you want someone you know to understand why you do it, show them this surfing DVD movie, they'll get the picture. |

on 2011/8/6 8:10:00 (520 reads) |
ISA World Bodyboarding Championship Galdar, Canary Island, Spain November 30 - December 4

The International Surfing Association is proud to announce the first edition of the ISA World Bodyboarding Championship. The event is confirmed to take place at the waves of El Frontón and la Guancha (Galdar City) in the Canary Islands, Spain from November 30 until December 4, 2011.
The ISA World Bodyboarding Championship was conceived to give all the bodyboarders in the world their own event to demonstrate their excellence. After two years of evaluating venues, the Executive Committee of the ISA decided that the "European Hawaii" was the right place to make this happen.
"We're proud to launch this new ISA signature event," said ISA President, Fernando Aguerre. "Just like in 2003 when the ISA launched our Juniors-only event and it was a huge success, we're confident the WBC will have a great turnout. We are excited to go back to Europe to host a World Championship event."

Sharks suddenly more conspicuous at Hawaii's beaches There's no clear reason for increased sightings and attack, experts say
Photo: Shark attack survivor - Todd Murashige shows the size of the shark's head, which he says was between 18 inches and 2 feet wide.
Advertiser Staff Writer
Sharks seem to be coming close to shore a lot lately.
For the past week, up to 15 large tiger sharks have lingered along five miles of the Big Island's Kohala Coast, near the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, coming within 20 yards of shore.
Several beaches have been closed on O'ahu in the past two weeks because of sightings.
And a shark attacked a surfer Tuesday at a popular Ka'a'awa surf spot called Crouching Lion.
