After four days of great surfing, Peru and Brazil found their way to the Final. Rodrigo Shepier and Piccolo Clemente gave it their all during the 35-minute Final, but in the end, the Brazilian found his way to the win and US$8,000 richer and the bearer of the title of champion.

Burning Semifinals

The final day of the Huanchaco Longboard Pro Peru 2010 opened in less than ideal conditions. The waves had ped slightly from previous days, however that simply upped the competition for the remaining heats- four semifinals, all coming down to one spectacular final heat.

Since the initial second, a hightend emotion could be felt on the beach. Piccolo Clemente, the only Peruvian/ Latin American surfer that continued in competition, faced off against one of the best surfers on a classical longboard board, Alexis Deniel (FRA).

The entire city of Huanchaco met on the beach to encourage its local idol. Clemente was of concern against the Champion of France of the 2007, the one of the three best in Europe and member of the ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT), Alexis Deniel, who solid since the first day of the event came.

Two minutes before the horn, the French takes a wave that takes him back into first place (4,90), but Clemente obtained a 5,50 in the final seconds and classified for the Semifinal, which would be against Matheus S. Cunha, who narrowly eliminated Rodrigo de Souza.

Rodrigo Shepier was the second surfer in classifying. An unexpected performance after conquering to the ten times champion of Longboard in Brazil, Picuruta Salazar. With a combination of 5.25 and 4.00 left went to the great and experienced windsurfer, who needed 5.25 to achieve the first position.

Piccolo Makes History in Huanchaco

Despite his defeat, Piccolo Clemente gave thanks to his home town of Huanchaco, and hope of all of his countrymen. Hundreds turned out to show their support, and even though Clemente didn’t score that winning wave, he made Peru proud. Thus given the nickname, "Hero Mochica". Clemente has become the image of surfing in Peru, as well as Latin America, and all watch with bated breath as he goes in search of more.

Besides this Huanchaco LQS Pro, Clemente has also become two-time national champion, as well as obtained third place in the Pan-American Contest, thus ranking him first in the ASP LQS, and giving him the opportunity to compete in the ASP World Longboard Tour next year.
